Married – at Mother’s Funeral

When P Sanjeevi Rajan’s mother died whilst buying for his nuptials, it seemed certain to delay, or at least disrupt, his to his fiancé Ms R Sasikalah. Yes the plans changed but only to the extent that the wedding was brought forward two weeks to last Tuesday and held in front of his mother’s coffin during her funeral!

indian-weddingAs he explained later, the wedding could have been delayed to a later date, but in that event Mr Rajan’s mother would not have been there. So the solution was obvious to him and his bride: marry in front of his mother’s coffin and at least she was still there!

His bride agreed saying that she got to pay her last respects to her now Mother-in-Law, despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the event! And her father confirmed that both families thought it was a good idea.

Is this the weirdest wedding ever?

Other contenders for the title include:

The 1976 marriage of Jannene Swift in to a 50lb rock in front of 20 witnesses,

The disastrous marriage of the King of France, Philip I Augustus, who decided that he no longer liked his future wife – halfway through the ceremony! The poor woman spent many years afterwards locked in a nunnery.

During the 1920’s, an Irish man walked up the isle with the groom but stood on his left and not his right, and was promptly married to the bride after answering all of the questions posed by the priest! A re-run was quickly held!

  1. I would agree that that is a pretty bizarre wedding. I’ve heard of other wierd weddings like that but a funeral? That’s a new one.

  2. Its amazing what some people will do when emotions are stressed. To be quite honest, not sure many brides in the USA would have approved of having there wedding in this fashion. But as long as they happy that is all that matters.
